Bulk-Removing Ghost (Inactive) Followers on Instagram
Over time, every account can accumulate inactive, deleted, or never-active "ghost" followers. These followers lower your engagement rate, which can make your profile appear less valuable to brands and to the algorithm.
Instagram's Built-In Follower Removal
Instagram lets you go to your followers list and use the three-dot menu next to each follower to select "Remove Follower". However, this is done one at a time — there's no official "select all" bulk-removal feature.
Which Followers Should You Remove?
- Accounts with no profile photo that have never posted anything
- Accounts with usernames made of random numbers and letters
- Followers who haven't liked or commented on your posts in a long time
An Important Note
Manually reducing your follower count may lower the number in the short term, but it can improve your engagement rate over time. Giving your Instagram login credentials to third-party "bulk cleanup" apps can put your account's security at risk; we recommend doing this manually through Instagram's own app only.
